Quality Time-Killer: Omega Box
Jet-packs are not only cool inventions, but they also score a lot of style points. Any run-of-the-mill secret agent can escape a deadly situation. It takes a special kind of secret agent, like a James Bond or a Sterling Archer, to escape death’s icy grip using a jet-pack.
Unfortunately, not everyone can be one of these suave spies. Sometimes, jet-packs fall into the hands of a heroic science experiment that looks like a giant tooth. That’s the case in Omega Box, from IronZilla.
At the start of Omega Box, Subject 117 has just escaped captivity. In order to reach total freedom, Subject 117 must escape using a nearby jet-pack. To try and stop him, the facility holding Subject 117 throws everything at him, including smart bombs, death lasers, and giant drills. Should he survive this, the facility will start throwing the really heavy artillery at him. Let’s just say that includes a giant fireball-spewing mechanical head. If that isn’t enough, the jetpack is constantly in need of refueling. Subject 117 must dodge each obstacle using the arrow keys and keep collecting fuel cells before the jet-pack’s fuel runs out, or else he’ll plummet to his demise, Wile E. Coyote-style.
Games generally last around a couple of minutes, with the goal to reach as high a score as possible. After each game, unlocked achievements can be used to make scoring a lot easier. Unlockables include a screen-wide blast that takes out missiles, a protective layer that can withstand missile blasts, and a laser-proof suit. This helps extend the life of the game, as some of the equipped items help create a different experience.
Overall, Omega Box is a nice distraction. IronZilla doesn’t take any bold steps forward, but the game mechanics are easy to understand and players will enjoy the variety of enemies and power-ups. Those looking to spend some time with Omega Box can play the game for free from their web browser.
