Buy Clover: A Curious Tale on XBLIG this Weekend, Proceeds Go to Charity

Developer Deej of Binary Tweed released an updated version of Clover: A Curious Tale on Xbox Live Indie Games this week. Though the game was initially made available as a PC downloadable this past March, Deej has teamed up with co-developer Blitz 1UP to implement many improvements for the re-release, including playable content not previously available.

The best part? If you buy the game on Xbox LIVE Indie Games on either August 21 or 22 (that’s this weekend!), Binary Tweed and Blitz 1UP have arranged for their cut of the proceeds to be donated to War Child, an international charity that operates in war-zones trying to help rebuild affected children’s lives. A noble cause, indeed.

Clover: A Curious Tale tells the story of Sam, a young man who’s lost his mother to foreign acts of aggression, and must piece together facts to unravel the mystery behind a series of strange events. As you can tell from the trailer, the attractive, hand-drawn art style is full of personality.

The improvements that have been made for the update are fairly significant. For starters, the game now includes full voice-acting, 50% more puzzles (with many of the originals having been refined), improved art and animations, and a completely re-recorded soundtrack. Round things out with a playable epilogue with three possible endings and a new sidequest. Even those who completed the previous release of Clover will have a lot of new content to explore.

Clover: A Curious Tale is currently available for download from Xbox Live Indie Games for 400 Microsoft Points ($5). Binary Tweed’s hardball sales pitch is right on the money:

So, if you don’t buy a copy this weekend, not only are you a mug for depriving yourself of a great game, but you also hate war-afflicted children. Could you really live with yourself if you didn’t buy it?

The PC version (and playable demo) are also available from various digital distributors for around $10, though the price will vary slightly, depending on where you buy it. At the time of this post, Direct2Drive and GetGames appear to be the least expensive PC versions, priced at $9.95.

That said, if you’re going to grab it, do so this weekend from XBLIG. It’s about half the price there, and you get the bonus of  feeling good by donating to a worthy cause.
